Tell it your target, your grade so far and how much of the course is complete.

Required Marks Calculator

All fields are required unless marked “optional”.

Average on the work that has been graded

For example 60 if coursework worth 60% is graded

Your result will appear hereFill in the fields and press “Calculate”.

Formula

  • needed % = (target − current × done ÷ 100) ÷ (100 − done) × 100
  • current — your average on the graded work, in percent
  • done — the percentage of the final grade already decided

Subtract the points you've already banked from your target, and spread the rest over the work still to come.

Worked example

75% on 60% of the grade, target 80%

Target overall grade
80 %
Your grade so far
75 %
Share of the grade already decided
60 %

Score needed on the remaining work

87.5%

Points already banked: 45%

How it works

If coursework worth 60% of the grade has averaged 75%, you have banked 0.75 × 60 = 45 points. To finish on 80 you need 35 more points from the remaining 40%, which means scoring 35 ÷ 40 = 87.5% on it.

If the number is above 100% the target is out of reach without extra credit; if it is zero or below you have already secured it. For several weighted components with their scores use the Weighted Marks and Grade Calculator, and for a single total see Marks Percentage Calculator.

Assumptions and limits

  • All remaining work is combined into one score; extra-credit rules aren't modelled.
Your institution’s rules come firstBoards and universities set their own grading and conversion rules. Where they differ, the rule printed by your institution is the one that counts.
