Formula
percentage = marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100marks = percentage ÷ 100 × total marks
- Across subjects, add all marks obtained and all maximum marks first, then divide.
Divide what you scored by what was possible, then multiply by 100.

- 78/100 85/100 92/100
Overall percentage
85.00%
Total marks obtained: 255
Total maximum marks: 300

How it works
450 out of 500 is 450 ÷ 500 = 0.9, or 90%. To go backwards, 85% of 600 is 0.85 × 600 = 510 marks. For several subjects the tool adds up every mark obtained and every maximum, then divides — so a subject out of 200 counts for twice as much as one out of 100, which matches how boards total marks.
If your result is a CGPA rather than marks, use CGPA to Percentage Calculator. To see what you need in the next exam to reach a target, try Required Marks Calculator, and if parts of the grade have different weights use Weighted Marks and Grade Calculator. The underlying sum is the same as the Percentage Calculator.
Assumptions and limits
