How to use it
Add two or more PDF files. Each appears with its size and page count, and the order of the list is the order of the merged document: use the arrow buttons to move a file up or down, or sort by name. Files that are damaged or are not really PDFs are flagged individually, and password-protected files ask for their password so they can be included. When you press Merge, the pages of each file are copied in sequence into a new document and the first pages are drawn as a preview.
The merge copies the visible content of every page: text, images, vector graphics and fonts. It does not carry over document-level extras such as bookmarks, interactive form fields or digital signatures, and a signed PDF will no longer show a valid signature after merging, because the file has changed. Links that point within the original document may stop working. Very large files are limited by your device's memory, so the tool stops at 30 files and 300 MB in total.
Processing happens in your browser, so confidential documents are not uploaded, and nothing is kept after you close the page. To pull pages out of a PDF rather than join files, use Split PDF; to reduce the size of the merged file use the PDF Compressor; and to add photographs or scans as pages, first turn them into a PDF with JPG to PDF Converter.
Supported formats and limits
| Input | PDF files only; up to 30 files and 300 MB in total. |
|---|---|
| Ordering | Move files up or down, remove them, or sort by file name. |
| Password-protected PDFs | Enter the password to include a protected file. The merged PDF is not password-protected. |
| What is copied | Page content (text, images, vector graphics, fonts). |
| What is not carried over | Bookmarks, form fields, digital signatures and document-level features. A signed PDF will no longer show a valid signature. |
| Preview | The first pages of the merged PDF are drawn so you can check the result before downloading. |
Practical examples
A cover letter, CV and certificates in one file
- Situation
- Add the three PDFs, move the cover letter to the top and merge.
- What to expect
- One PDF whose page count is the sum of the three, in the order shown. The summary line shows the total number of pages before you merge.
A protected statement
- Situation
- One of the PDFs asks for a password.
- What to expect
- The row shows a password box. Once unlocked, its pages are merged normally, and the merged file has no password.
A damaged file in the batch
- Situation
- One file is corrupt or not a real PDF.
- What to expect
- That row shows a clear error and is left out; you can remove it and merge the rest.
The numbers behind it
pages in the merged file = the sum of the pages in every input filemerged order = the order of the list, each file's pages kept in sequence
- Page counts are read from each PDF when you add it
- Reordering the list changes the order of whole files, not of pages inside a file
The pages of each file are copied, in order, into one new document.
Honest limits
- Bookmarks, form fields and digital signatures are not preserved.
- Password-protected files need their password, and the merged output is not protected.
- Limited to 30 files and 300 MB in total by browser memory.
