Formula
Session I = 3 × correct (no negative marking)Session II = 3 × correct − 1 × wrongraw score = Session I + Session II
- Session I: 20 mathematics + 20 reasoning questions = 120 marks
- Session II: 25 general awareness + 25 English questions = 150 marks
- Maximum 270 marks
Three marks per right answer; a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in Session II only.
Worked example
A sample attempt
- Numerical and Mathematical Ability — correct (Session I)
- 15
- Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving — correct (Session I)
- 17
- General Awareness — correct (Session II)
- 18
- General Awareness — wrong (Session II)
- 5
- English Language and Comprehension — correct (Session II)
- 20
- English Language and Comprehension — wrong (Session II)
- 3
Raw score
202 / 270
Session I (no negative marking): 96 / 120
Session II (−1 per wrong answer): 106 / 150
Marks lost to wrong answers: 8
How it works
The SSC Multi-Tasking Staff computer-based test is held in two sessions. Session I has 40 questions — 20 in Numerical and Mathematical Ability and 20 in Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving — and carries 120 marks with no negative marking. Session II has 50 questions — 25 in General Awareness and 25 in English Language and Comprehension — and carries 150 marks. Every question is worth 3 marks, so the paper is out of 270.
Negative marking applies only in Session II, where each wrong answer costs 1 mark. That is why the calculator asks for wrong answers only for the two Session II sections. Enter your counts, ideally from the answer key, and the table splits the score by section and session.
The result is a raw score. Shortlisting, session-wise requirements, any normalisation across shifts and cut-offs are decided by the Commission after the exam and are not modelled. For other SSC papers see SSC CGL Tier 1 Score Calculator and SSC CHSL Tier 1 Score Calculator; Marks Percentage Calculator converts the result to a percentage.
Assumptions and limits
- Pattern and marking of the 2025 notification: 3 marks per question, no negative marking in Session I, −1 per wrong answer in Session II. Check the official notice for any other cycle.
- Raw score only: normalisation, qualifying requirements and cut-offs are not modelled.
