JEE Main Marks Calculator

Published summaries disagree on this, so the default shows both totals. Use the rule printed in your paper.

Your result will appear hereFill in the fields and press “Calculate marks”.

Formula

  • Section A (MCQ): 4 × correct − 1 × wrong
  • Section B (numerical): 4 × correct − p × wrong, p = 0 or 1
  • Paper 1 total = sum over Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
  • Each subject has 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical questions (25 questions, 100 marks)
  • 75 questions and 300 marks in total
  • Unattempted questions score 0

Four marks for every right answer, one mark off for each wrong multiple-choice answer, and either nothing or one mark off for a wrong numerical answer.

How it works

JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) is a computer-based test with 75 questions: 25 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In every subject, Section A has 20 multiple-choice questions and Section B has 5 questions whose answer is a number. Every question carries 4 marks, so the paper is out of 300.

A wrong multiple-choice answer costs 1 mark; a skipped question scores nothing. Whether a wrong numerical answer also costs a mark is where published summaries disagree — some describe a penalty and some describe none — so this calculator shows your total both ways unless you choose one. If you are checking against a response sheet, apply the rule printed in your own question paper.

Marks are not a percentile. The National Testing Agency converts raw marks into a percentile within each exam session, and that depends on everyone else in your session. If you know your rank in your session, the JEE Main Percentile Calculator applies the NTA definition. To turn marks into a plain percentage use Marks Percentage Calculator, and for a different scheme the generic Exam Score Calculator accepts any rules.

Assumptions and limits

  • Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) with 25 questions per subject — 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical — as described for recent years. Paper 2 (B.Arch./B.Planning) uses a different structure and is not covered.
  • Whether a wrong Section B answer costs a mark is shown both ways because published summaries disagree and the official bulletin could not be checked here.
  • Questions the NTA drops or credits after challenges can change official marks.
Check the official noticeExam rules change with each notification. This tool uses the scheme stated below for the named cycle only. It estimates raw marks from your own answer count and doesn’t predict normalised scores or cut-offs.

Note
Multiple-choice marking (+4/−1) agrees across every source checked. The Section B penalty did not, and the official NTA bulletin could not be opened during review, so both outcomes are shown.

Common questions

Is there negative marking for numerical questions in JEE Main?
Sources disagree, so this calculator shows both totals. Check the marking scheme printed in your own question paper or on the NTA site for your session — that is the authority.
Is this my JEE Main percentile?
No. Marks are not a percentile. The percentile is computed within your session from all candidates' scores. Use the JEE Main Percentile Calculator if you know your rank and the number of candidates in your session.
