Formula
a : b : c ÷ GCF(a, b, c)share of term t = total × t ÷ (sum of all terms)
- GCF — greatest common factor of all the terms
Divide every term by their greatest common factor. To split an amount, divide it by the number of parts and multiply by each term.

- 100
Shares
40 : 60
Total parts: 5
Value of one part: 20
How it works
12 : 18 : 30 shares a greatest common factor of 6, so dividing each term gives 2 : 3 : 5. If some terms are decimals the tool first multiplies every term by 10, 100 and so on until they are whole numbers, then reduces, so 1.5 : 2.5 becomes 3 : 5.
To split 100 in the ratio 2 : 3 there are 5 parts in total, each worth 20, so the shares are 40 and 60. The table shows each share's percentage of the total.
If you know three of four numbers in two equal ratios use Proportion Calculator. The greatest common factor comes from the same method as in HCF and LCM Calculator.
Assumptions and limits
- Terms can't be negative, and at least one must be greater than zero.
- Decimals are handled up to 6 decimal places.
