Formula
value in target unit = value × (m² per source unit) ÷ (m² per target unit)
- 1 hectare = 10,000 m²
- 1 acre = 4,046.8564224 m² = 43,560 ft²
- 1 ft² = 0.09290304 m²
Convert to square metres, then to the unit you want.

How it works
Area units are the square of length units, so the factors are squares too: since 1 foot is 0.3048 m, 1 square foot is 0.3048² = 0.09290304 m². An acre is defined as 43,560 square feet, about 4,046.86 m², and a hectare is a 100 m × 100 m square.
Regional units common in property listings — bigha, gaj, kanal, cent, ground — differ from one state or country to another (a bigha can be a fraction of an acre in one state and over an acre in another), so they are left out rather than guessed. Check your local land records for the definition that applies. See also Length Converter and Volume Converter.
